Your Cross Stitch is done, now what?

Starting a cross-stitch project is always fun and exciting. But what do you do when you're done? Besides framing it, there are plenty of creative options! Read on for fresh and unique ideas!

After months of stitching, you’ve finally completed your cross-stitch project, whether it’s your first, second, or tenth. This therapeutic journey, transforming simple x’s into a stunning masterpiece, is incredibly rewarding.

But now what? Many cross-stitchers simply frame their finished pieces, sending them to a framer with a hope and prayer that it turns out perfectly. Personally, I have a wall dedicated solely to my framed cross-stitch works.

However, there are other creative ways to showcase your completed cross-stitch projects. Here are seven fun and unique ideas to consider, depending on the size of your patterns:

1. Make a Quilt

Sew small cross-stitch patterns together on a large piece of fabric to create a beautiful patchwork quilt.

2. Create a Table Cloth

Use floral or border cross-stitch designs to make a custom table runner. Impress your guests with a table cloth you've crafted yourself!

3. Craft Coasters

Cross-stitch at least six patterns of the same theme and add lace around them for charming coasters, or use no-fray Aida for ready-made coasters once you're done stitching.

4. Design Cushion Covers

Instead of using ready-made stitchable cushion covers, sew your cross-stitch designs onto plain cushion covers for a personalized touch.

5. Make a Wallpaper Border

Cross-stitch floral designs or alphabets on long strips of Aida and glue them around a plain wall to liven up a room, perfect for a baby’s nursery.

6. Sew a Pencil Case or Purse

Stitch a design on a larger piece of Aida, fold it so the design is centered, sew up the corners, and add a zipper for a handmade pencil case or purse.

7. Create a Headband

Use a small rectangular cross-stitch pattern, attach a short piece of elastic band to the ends, and you'll have a lovely handmade headband to hold your hair back.

These are just a few ideas to inspire you to think beyond the frame and make the most of your beautiful cross-stitch creations!
